NEW YORK -- The Mets won a coin toss with the Astros on Thursday to determine home-field advantage for a potential one-game playoff between the two teams.

Should the Mets and Astros tie for the National League Wild Card lead after Monday's play -- the Astros have a makeup game scheduled for Monday against the Cubs -- then the two teams would play a one-game playoff on Tuesday at Shea Stadium.

The flip was the second won by the Mets this season. Should the Mets and Brewers -- who are currently tied atop the NL Wild Card standings -- remain knotted after 162 games, they would play a one-game playoff on Monday at Shea. And should the Mets and Phillies tie for the NL East lead while the Brewers win the NL Wild Card outright, then the two NL East teams would play a one-game playoff on Monday at Citizens Bank Park.

Heading into Thursday's play, the Astros stood 3 1/2 games back of both the Mets and Brewers in the NL Wild Card standings. Any Astros loss, combined with a Mets or Brewers victory, would officially knock them out of the playoff chase.
