Padres to recall Myrow on Tuesday

SAN DIEGO -- In hopes of boosting their struggling offense, the Padres purchased the contract of outfielder Chip Ambres and recalled first baseman Brian Myrow from Triple-A Portland prior to Tuesday's game against the Florida Marlins.

Myrow is leading the Beavers with a .324 batting average and has 10 home runs and 53 RBIs in 87 games. A season after winning the Pacific Coast League batting title, Myrow was recently selected to represent the Beavers in the Triple-A All-Star Game.

Ambres, who is not on the 40-man roster, was hitting .289 with 16 home runs and 62 RBIs in 85 games this season.

To make room for Myrow and Ambres, the Padres outrighted outfielder Paul McAnulty and he cleared waivers.

The team also outrighted pitcher Carlos Guevara, who was a Rule 5 acquisition from the Reds.

The Padres on Tuesday worked out a trade with the Reds to retain Guevara for cash considerations or a player to be named later.
