Soriano, seventh lead Cubs over Snakes

CHICAGO -- Alfonso Soriano hit a go-ahead RBI double and Kosuke Fukudome hit his second home run during the Cubs' six-run seventh inning on Saturday.

The Cubs collected six hits in the inning against two relievers in a 7-2 win over Arizona in front of a season-high 41,957 at Wrigley Field.

Soriano had four hits from the leadoff spot and scored twice on close plays at the plate as the Cubs clinched their first series win since a two-game sweep over the Mets on April 21-22.

Cubs starter Ryan Dempster cruised until the sixth, when he gave up a pair of runs on two singles, two walks and a groundout. He gave up three hits overall, striking out seven and walking three.

Scott Eyre (1-0) got the win in his first appearance of the season after being activated from the disabled list on Friday.

The Cubs trailed, 2-1, when Mark DeRosa led off the seventh with a single off Chad Qualls (0-4). Reed Johnson moved him over, and pinch-hitter Daryle Ward scored DeRosa with a single to deep left. Soriano laced a hit to left-center to score pinch-runner Jason Marquis. Soriano scored on Ryan Theriot's single. Aramis Ramirez had an RBI single off Brandon Medders, and Fukudome's second homer, a two-run shot, landed just above the 368 sign in left-center.

The Cubs managed only five hits against Arizona rookie Max Scherzer in just his second start in the Majors, and didn't take advantage of early scoring opportunities. Two Cubs runners were easily thrown out at home and Theriot was caught stealing second.
