In the ninth inning, Grudzielanek was chasing a high popup by Chicago's Juan Uribe. As Grudzielanek made the catch, he was clipped by Gload who was ducking to get out of the way.
Grudzielanek tumbled to the ground in obvious pain and left the game limping on his right ankle.
Center fielder David DeJesus left the game after six innings. He jammed his left ankle while returning to first base on a pickoff throw in the fourth inning.
"No fracture on Grud -- but further evaluation tomorrow morning," Royals manager Trey Hillman said. "David turned his ankle. He'll be day-to-day, don't know how he's going to be tomorrow. Swelling in Grud's and swelling in David's."
DeJesus also has been bothered by a stiff lower back.
Outfielder Jose Guillen, who didn't start the game because of a sore left hip, was waiting in the on-deck circle to pinch-hit when the game ended.
